La Serena (Coquimbo), Chile
La Serena is 460km north of Santiago in Chile. The city was founded in the
16th century by the Spanish conqueror, Francisco de Aguirre
Our first port was in Coquimbo, Chile. It is a little city just north of Santiago along the
coast.  We were only in port a few hours and since we slept in we didn't go into town
(which was about a 15 minute taxi ride from the harbor).
This coastal town is built entirely on the solid rock slopes
that line this part of the Chilean coast. The houses are
built on the steep slopes with cement fences between the
"yards".
After our stroll around the dock area we joined
Judy and Rusty for lunch then we all went to the
indoor spa for a little relaxation (this being on
vacation can be very stressing!!)
Kathy was not being very cooperative
with the photographer!!
Our room is OK and it has a
great veranda where we spend a
lot of time.  They bring fresh fruit
everyday and snacks at night.
The room is smaller than some
we have had, but it is big enough
since we don't spend much time
there.  Judy and Rusty have the
cabin right next to ours which
makes it easier to coordinate
activities.
We went to one of the
nightclubs on the ship
to wait for our dinner
time (we have the
second seating which
starts at 8:45 p.m.).
The meals have all
been excellent so far.
We are sitting at a table
with three other
couples.  They all know
each other and are very
fun people.  We have a
good time with them at
dinner.
